Chris, Yes, you may add my email address. I have a ton of air checks from WHYN but most of them are on reels and I don't have a reel to reel player anymore. I am not sure if I have anything on cassette. I saved a bunch of surveys when I left. I don't know if you have seen the one with me wearing headphones, but that was taken when I did a remote broadcast for the Grand Opening of Bay State West and Valley Bank tower back in "71"!! Such a long time ago. I sent Tracy Carmen some pictures (in studio shots) a year ago, but he has not added them yet. I talked to O'Brady a few weeks ago as he mentioned in your guestbook. I hadn't talked to him since I was in Buffalo, N.Y. and he had just gone to Virginia in "75". As for now I am in Austin, Tx. (been here since "82"). I came here to work at KLBJ FM for Lady Bird Johnson. I got out of radio a few years back because I did not want to move around anymore after 23 years in the biz. I now work with the Travis Association for the Blind, providing employment for blind and visually impaired adults. My past time is spent playing golf and restoring classic Mustangs (I have three). That's all for now. Talk to you later. Jim Monday November 8, 1999
Greetings, Chris! Been perusing the site for the last hour or so...checked out the
pix and air chex. I need to get something to you for the collection!
The guy with Larry Kruger in the Valentine's contest pic is Jim Scott;
the guy(?) with Dennis is Steve Wichrowski (we always referred to him
by his full name, Steven A. Wichrowski, Jr.)...he was (and maybe still is!)
an engineer with the station (although I don't know if he's with the radio or TV)...
he used to do nights at the transmitter and kept the official log, then came down
to Liberty Street. He was a piece of work!

Where are you from?: Spfld. originally; Salem, VA now
Reference: Word of Mouth
Do you like the site?: Terrific!
Comments: The Big 56 was the station I grew up with (along w/ WSPR). So it was truly a kick to get a job there at 19, working with Bob Allen, Lou Terri, Phil Dee, Jeff Baker, Dick Booth and Ron Savage (who started the same day as me in May '67). My first newsman was Dan Scanlan, who's now with Mutual Network in N.Y. (I think). Ray Hershel, Doug Varney and Jack O'Neil came later. Jack and I grew up together on Hungry Hill, playing baseball at Van Horn Park and later singing in an Irish folk group, the Setters, at Cathedral High; we were the first entertainment ever at the old Keg Room downtown. The reunion 3 years ago was great...seeing Bob Holland, Rich Roy, Larry Kruger, Jackson Hill, Phil...and meeting for the first time Al Gates, Bud Stone, Dickie Robinson and Bud Claine (sp?). Jim Scott and I talked recently, his having gotten a phone number from the unofficial page; Dennis Lee is my 2nd oldest radio bud...we worked together at WBRL in Berlin, N.H. The family generally gets back to Spfld. at Thanksgiving, but we weren't able to make it for last year's reunion; hope there's another planned soon! Got some old airchecks that I'll dig out and send along. Shout if there's anything else you need!

WHYN was my station when I was growing up in Ludlow back in the 50s & 60s... used to listen to Phil ( echo) Dee ,dee, dee, dee as well as Bud Stone!!! Geez, I go as far back as when Phil used to be on WTYM (1600) in Longmeadow!!! Do YOU remember THAT FAR BACK!?!?!? Any how, I've got an aircheck of my airwork (as "Fritz" Morgan) from back in 1968-69 at WTXL (1490), which at the time was managed by former WHYN GM, Zach Land... the WTXL PD, at the time, was none other than Bud Stone!! Is he still alive?? Also had the opportunity to work with Dick Booth at "tixel" as well! Having been in "the biz" from 1968 till now, I've had occasion to meet and even work with folks who were HYN jocks from the past (Little Davey is one that comes to mind) Geez, what a small world!!! I even had the pleasure of meeting Durham Caldwell recently when I was the subject of his "Page 9" interview which ran in Ludlow's newspaper, The Register! CLASS CLOWN MAKES GOOD!!! (George Carlin, eat your heart out!) Currently in Washington, DC at WJZW-FM playing smooooth jazz for the workplace!!! Check it out: http://smoothjazz1059.com drop me a line! al santos
